Anytime I think about Turkeys the image that comes to mind is a slow moving flock foraging the ground looking for anything and everything that would make a tasty treat! Now that I think about it, I have really only seen Turkeys during the day… Doing just that, roaming the ground staying consistent with their daily routine. It got me thinking. Where to this birds go once the sun begins to go down? Do they sleep? Where do they sleep and how do they keep safe from predator’s in the night? I knew I needed to keep digging and find out after all where do wild turkeys sleep. After all of my research the answer was actually quite simple.
Wild Turkeys sleep in trees at night to keep them safe from predator’s and unpredictable weather. However, Turkeys are selective in choosing which type of tree they will call home for the night. Several factors come into play when choosing a safe and secure location. Wild Turkeys have very poor eyesight in the dark so being off the ground is crucial to their survival to avoid any predator’s. They will also make sure an select a tree that has proper foliage to provide coverage and adequate shelter for the season and weather conditions.
