If you love these snakes make sure to look into their conservation. They are currently listed as vulnerable for extinction. They are harvested for their skin, food and even medical purposes. Their venom can fetch a pretty high price. Their habitats are also being reduced due to deforestation in Southeast Asia.
The King Cobra is actually a protected species in the Vietnam. The Indian government is helping the fight by placing microchips in captive king cobras to allow officials to identify any snakes that have been recently take captive. This is an illegal activity and the microchip helps track the culprits.
