The Fennec foxes can be found in Africa hanging out at in the Sahara desert. They can be found in other areas throughout North Africa. These adorable little creates are nocturnal and like to come out and night. This helps them cope with the extreme heats of the desert.
Their most defining features is their long ears. Their ears actually help them stay cool by radiating body heat. It gets very cold at night in the desert but the Fennec fox has long thick hair to help them stay warm. They even have long hair on their feet which helps protect them from the incredibly hot sand.
They have neat black-tipped tails and are cream-colored. Unfortunately their fur is sought after and are hunted for it. They are also considered unique and adorable and are popular among the captive pet trade. Little is actually known about the status of wild Fennec fox populations.

♦ A Fennec foxes will typically look for plants to eat, but they aren’t that picky and will take advantage of whats available. They might go after insects, reptiles, small rodents and even eggs.

♦ The fennec fox has extraordinary hearing which is used for locating underground prey. Not a shock looking at those huge ears!
♦ They have adapted to conserve on water. The fennec fox has kidneys that are specifically adapted to help them go without water. They absorb much of their moisture from the food they eat and by licking dew that forms in their dens.
♦ They are the only creature that feeds off other creatures to live without freely available water in the Sahara Desert.
♦ They will have up to 2 litters per year and will typically have about 2-5 young born per litter.
♦ Their sandy color also helps them reflect heat in the scorching Sahara Desert. This color also gives them great camouflage and makes them hard to see.
♦ The fennec fox does not pose any threat to people or their animals. They can actually be useful in helping keep down large populations of rodents.
♦ Their numbers are dwindling and are threatened mainly by locals who trap and hunt them for their furs and to sell to tourists.
