The Emperor Penguin is the biggest out of all the 17 other species of penguins, coming in at almost 4 feet tall and up to 90 pounds. They also are the only animal to live on the open ice in Antarctica during the winter! These poor little guys face wind chills as cold as -76 degrees F and blizzards of up to 124 mph! To be able to survive these harsh climates, the emperor penguins have several special adaptions! They have a waterproof coat made up of four layers of scale like feathers. Also they store very large amounts of fat to help insulate their bodies and provide them with long lasting energy!

They are able to stay under the water for more than 20 min and can dive deeper than any other bird, reaching up to 1850 ft deep.
