The Razor E 100 (pictured left) ended up being the electric scooter I chose for my 10 year old son. It had the best combination of features and safety for the right price. You can buy a Razor E 100 for around $100.
The Razor E100 batter life was pretty good. It takes 12 hours or so to make a full charge (usually overnight) but then runs continually for up to 40 minutes. That doesn’t sound like a long time, but my son rarely needed or wanted to play with it longer than that.
Keep in mind that this is a kick start electric scooter. They will need to be able to push off to get the scooter going to a certain speed before it takes off. This just took my son a few tries, once he got the hand of it, it was super easy for him to take off.
The battery charger does come included and easily plugs into the wall then the electric scooter. There was some minimal assembly, but it went together rather easy in about 15 minutes.

The Razor E 200 (pictured left) is the next step up and goes up from the Razor E100. When my son out grows the E100, the E200 will be the next logical step up. It’s a little bit bigger and holds more weight, up to 154 pounds. It also goes up to 12 MPH, which doesn’t sound like a lot more than 10 MPH, but it actually is.
The Razor E200 battery life is actually pretty similar. You will get around 40 minutes of continuous run time out of a 12 hour charge. The price is typically a little higher, around $160 – $200. You are getting a little more power so the price naturally jumps up a bit.
The Razor E200 comes in a couple different model types. You have the Razor RX200, which is an off road model. It has special tires that are more suited for off road travel. You also have the Razor E200S which comes with a seat. Some kids feel more comfortable or would rather sit down while traveling. The Razor E300 is a fast electric scooter for adults and kids. It reaches up to 15 MPH!
If you came here looking for a fast electric scooter for adults, then this one is it. The Razor E300 is the fastest electric scooter I will be reviewing today. It has the most power and can get up to the highest speeds at 15 MPH.
It also holds the most weight at 220 pounds. If your child has already used the Razor E200 and is ready for the next step up, the E300 is it. It’s a pretty fast electric scooter, 15 MPH is moving pretty good. One of the benefits of this scooter is you don’t have to kick start it. You can take off from a dead stop, which is pretty nice.
Due to it’s power, this is the least safe electric scooter I am going over today. It can get higher speeds and has a lot more pep. If you have never went 12 MPH with the Razor E200 this may be a little shocking.
The Razor E300 is the highest price on my list today. You can typically find it between $200 – $360. The Razor E300 also has a seated version, the E300S,

The Razor E90 electric scooter for kids ages 6 to 7 to 8 years old, depending on their size.
The Razor E90 is the smallest of the Razor electric scooters. It can have up to 120 pounds on it. They suggest that your child be at least 8 years old, but I think if your kid is a little bigger anywhere from age 6 to 7 would be okay.
The Razor E90 only goes up to 9 MPH, which is 1 MPH lower than the E100. This is probably your best bet if your not sure how your child will respond, but you want to get an electric scooter that is just a little slower and safe.
One of the big benefits is that it’s the newest model and the lightest weight. It actually runs a little longer than the typical 40 minutes because it’s so light.
When it comes down to it, the Razor E90 is not a lot different than the E100. It will get a little bit better batter life, but won’t go quite as fast. It is quite a bit lighter, which could be a huge benefit for some.

They have a steering limiter which makes it a little harder to over steer. Over steering is a huge problem for young electric scooter riders. This built in function makes it basically impossible for them to over steer.
The Pulse Performance safe start also has a gradual take off to help make sure the child does not take off too abruptly. The push button gently makes the scooter begin to move then slowly brakes when the button is released. There is no way to have jerky or sudden movements.
The track is also much wider making it much easier for your child to stay on the electric scooter. There are also 3 wheels to help support the extra area.
They have also designed this electric scooter for toddlers to come in a bunch of different characters. You have Disney Princess electric scooters, Frozen electric scooters, Ninja Turtle Electric Scooters, Spider Man Electric Scooters, Sofia Electric Scooter and a few more. Before you pull the trigger on any of the best electric scooters for kids 2016, it’s important that you understand what the specs mean. This will allow you to purchase the best electric scooter for your child. Keep in mind, that all the electric scooters we are talking about today are under or around $300. There are higher end electric scooters, some go a little faster, but typically this kind of electric scooter is not necessary for your kid. If you already know about these higher end electric scooters, you probably don’t need to be reading this in the first place.
Let’s get started.
Electric Scooter Safety
Being safe was one of my biggest concerns when looking to buy an electric scooter for my son. I wanted to know that these riding toys were safe. Razor actually has a great resource for staying safe while on an electric scooter.

Understanding Electric Scooter Terminology
This is just a quick definition of some of the terms you see when researching electric scooters.
6V, 12V and 24V batteries. The V stands for Volts in the battery. The higher the voltage the more powerful the scooter is. This is similar in other driving toys you see for kids.
You will also see the electric scooters labeled as E100, E200, E300 Ect… The number is the wattage of the motor. The E300 actually has a 250 Watt motor while the E100 has a 100 watt motor.
When it comes down to it, the higher the numbers the more powerful the scooter is. This is why I created the comparison chart above, so you can see the speed associated with the electric scooter at a glance.
Size of Electric Scooters
Keep in mind that the power of the electric scooter is not the only thing you need to pay attention too. The actual size of the frame between the E100 and the E300 are quite a bit different. The weight is also quite a bit different.
It’s important to pay attention to the dimensions of the top rated electric scooter of 2016 you are looking at. If it’s too big for your child, it won’t work very well and can become dangerous.
The tire size on the E100 is also different than the E3o0. The tire size are optimized to accommodate the size of the electric scooter and the size of the child that should be riding it.
