World Largest Dinosaur Or “Titanosaur” Ever Discovered In Argentina
Paleontologists Discover Worlds Largest Dinosaur
Recently in Argentina paleontologists are saying they have discovered the largest dinosaur to ever wander the earth. The titanosaur, as they are calling it, would have stood to be 65 feet tall and was more than 130 feet long! It would have weighed more than 77 tons. (155,000) pounds.
It had a relatively small skull for it’s size, it’s incredibly large length would have been spread out across a long neck and tail. Just to help you understand how big it was compared to it’s dinosaur relatives, the T-Rex weighed about 7 tons. So this guy weighs 11 times more than the T-Rex!
“Given the size of these bones, which surpass any of the previously known giant animals, the new dinosaur is the largest animal known that walked on Earth,” scientists Dr. Jose Luis Carballido and Dr. Diego Pol told the BBC.
A local farm worker spotted the fossils in 2011 and have been fully excavated by a team from the Museum Of Paleontology Egidio Feruglio led by Carballido and Pol. The fossils appear to have belonged to seven different dinosaurs and are in “remarkable condition”.
“Standing with its neck up, it was about 20m high — equal to a seven-story building.” Carballido said.

Even with it’s overwhelming size, the huge titanosaur is believed to be a herbivore. It belongs with the larger sauropod group of dinosaurs. Can you even imagine how much fresh produce and water this guy must have consumed?
They have not came up with a name yet for the worlds largest dinosaur ever, but they said they want to make sure it honors the Argentina farming community that found it and also it’s historic size.
This is not the first major Titansaur find in 2014. In January, a team of scientists our of Pennsylvania were able to find fossils belonging to the Yongjinglong datangi during a dig in China.
The scientists who discovered the worlds largest dinosaur say that it’s an unusually place to find these remains. There were other dinosaur species found in the same proximity of the titanosaur, some of them carnivore. They said strange placement of fossils more than likely means the dinosaurs died in a drought either due to dehydration or from getting stuck in the mud.
“It’s like two semi trucks, one after another, and the equivalent of more than 14 African elephants together in weight,” Carballido said. “Such dimensions put the focus on the extent to which these animals may have grown. It’s a real paleontological treasure,” he added.
Pretty amazing find, I’m anxious to see what they name this big guy. It must be an epic name to make sure the titanosaur has a proper title. These kind of discoveries are always so exciting, who knows how many more undiscovered animals and dinosaurs are out there, waiting to be unearthed and discovered!
I hope you enjoyed learning about the worlds largest dinosaur or titanosaur. Stay tuned for more awesome stories!
